1．－al：
approv（e）＋ al→approvaln． 同意，认可
E．g． They voiced their approval
of the plan．
他们对这项计划表示赞成。
arriv（e）＋ al→arrivaln． 到达，到来
E．g． The arrival of him sparkled
to the party．
他的到来使聚会变得生动活泼了。
2．－age：
short＋ age→shortagen． 缺乏，不足
E．g． The shortage of oil will
probably drive prices up．
石油短缺很有可能迫使价格上涨。
shrink＋ age→shrinkagen． 收缩
E．g． There has been much shrinkage
of the clothes in the wash．
这些衣服洗后已缩了很多。
3．－ance， －ence：
import ＋ ance→importancen． 重要性
E．g． The conference underscored
the importance of modern industry．
会议强调了现代工业的重要性。
confid（e）＋ ence→confidencen． 自信心
E．g． Tom blames his lack of
confidence on his mother．
汤姆把他的缺乏信心归咎于他母亲。
4．－ency：
consist ＋ ency→consistencyn． 连贯性，一致性
E．g． There’s always a lack of consistency in matters of foreign policy．
外交政策总是缺乏连贯性。
urg（e）＋ ency→urgencyn． 紧迫性
E．g． In case of urgency， call the police．
一旦发生紧急情况，打电话给警察。
5．－cy：
bankrupt ＋ cy→bankruptcyn． 破产
E．g． His failure knelled the
bankruptcy of the company．
他的失败宣告了公司的破产。
diploma ＋ cy→diplomacyn． 外交
E．g． The government is placing
its faith in international diplomacy．
政府对国际外交关系充满信心。
