本学科以自然科学、地球科学和海洋科学为理论基础，以地质、地球物理、地球化学和计算机技术等为主要手段，解决当前国民经济建设中的重大地质问题，为经济社会发展服务。近年来，本学科已在海洋工程地质、海洋沉积与工程环境、深海资源探测开发与评价技术、海洋地球物理勘探技术和油气勘探开发技术等方面形成了自己的研究特色和优势领域，并逐渐形成了一套科学合理的现代化地质工程综合技术和方法
Based on the natural science， geosciences and marine sciences theoretically， this subject solves the significant geological problems in national economic construction and serves the development of our economic society by means of geology， geophysics， geochemistry and computer science． In recent years， the subject has developed unique research feature and advantage fields in areas such as marine geological engineering， marine sedimentary and environmental engineering， deep－sea resources exploration and evaluation technique， marine geophysical prospecting technique， and oil and gas exploration technique． Also， the subject has gradually evolved a set of scientific and reasonable comprehensive technique and methods of modern geological engineering．
